“iOS 26 Update Goes Live Tonight with Exciting Features”

Must read

After a long wait, iOS 26 is set to roll out to millions of iPhones tonight. This major release was initially revealed in June at Apple’s WWDC Developers Conference and is now ready for widespread availability, with Apple confirming the release date as September 15.

The new software update brings a range of features, such as a fresh Liquid Glass design, an updated Lock Screen featuring a dynamic clock layout, and Spatial scenes that enhance wallpapers with a 3D effect.

iOS 26 will also introduce functionalities like spam call blocking, real-time language translation, and enhancements to Messages, Photos, Maps, and more. This update will be free to download, but not all users on iOS 18 will be able to upgrade due to compatibility issues.

Apple occasionally discontinues support for older devices that lack the necessary processing power for the latest iOS versions. Owners of iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR will miss out on iOS 26 unless they upgrade to a newer model.

To install iOS 26, users will need a compatible device. The list of iPhones compatible with iOS 26 includes iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16, and others down to iPhone SE (2nd generation and later).

Once iOS 26 is released, expected around 6 pm BST, users can find it in the Settings menu. Due to the expected large download size, it is recommended to be connected to Wi-Fi. Installation times may be longer on launch night due to high demand, so waiting a few days could lead to a smoother experience.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, praised iOS 26 for its new design and enhanced features, making the iPhone more user-friendly and personalized. The update includes improvements across various functions, making tasks easier for users with the integration of Apple Intelligence capabilities.
