“UK Expat Finds ‘Winter Paradise’ in Spain’s Costa Del Sol”

Must read

A man who chose to move from the UK to a Spanish region where temperatures can reach 17 degrees Celsius in January has described it as a “winter paradise.” The Costa Del Sol is a popular destination for British tourists, attracting approximately 3.1 million visitors annually.

British travelers make up about 30% of the region’s visitors, contributing nearly £4 billion to the local economy. While many Britons visit the Costa Del Sol during the summer, Mark Danby, a British expat, was drawn to the region for its mild winter climate.

In a video on YouTube, Mark, known as Tapas Guy online, shared that he used to feel lethargic and inactive during the cold, dreary winters in the UK. He felt like he was merely “getting by” during the darker months.

In 2025, Mark made the decision to leave the UK and relocate to the Costa Del Sol. He expressed that the change in seasons was refreshing for him, with quiet beaches and peaceful evenings offering a stark contrast to the weather extremes he experienced in Britain.

Mark’s daily life in Spain now revolves around leisurely walks and enjoying coffee outdoors, a stark departure from his routine in the UK. He emphasized that the winter climate in the Costa Del Sol has had a positive impact on his physical and mental well-being, reducing his stress levels.

When asked if the Costa Del Sol is indeed a winter paradise, Mark affirmed that the region offers a balanced lifestyle, serene sunsets without the crowds, and a supportive environment for work and well-being. Many expats, like Mark, have found solace in the region during the colder months.

According to a 2025 survey, nearly a quarter of the residents in Malaga were born outside of Spain, with the percentage rising to approximately 40% in towns such as Fuengirola. The expat community in the Costa Del Sol includes individuals from various countries, including the UK, Russia, and Finland.
