Ellen DeGeneres Makes Surprise Move to Cotswolds

Must read

In the Cotswolds, a popular destination for celebrities like the Beckhams and royal figures such as King Charles and Queen Camilla, a well-known Hollywood personality has recently made a move to the picturesque area.

For many years, Ellen DeGeneres, who is celebrating her 68th birthday today, was a prominent figure in the United States and Britain, known for hosting “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The show, which started in 2003 and ran for nearly two decades, received numerous accolades, including 61 Emmy awards out of 171 nominations.

However, in July 2020, the talk show host faced severe backlash when allegations of a toxic work environment surfaced online. Former staff members accused DeGeneres of bullying and fostering a hostile atmosphere, with some raising concerns about inappropriate behavior by producers and even on-air interactions with guests.

A pivotal moment came in November 2019 when Dakota Johnson appeared on the show and corrected DeGeneres about being invited to her birthday celebration. The ensuing controversy tarnished DeGeneres’ reputation, leading to a decline in viewership and sponsorship deals.

In 2022, after 19 seasons, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was canceled. Despite issuing public apologies, DeGeneres faced a significant loss of support from fans, prompting her to withdraw from the public eye.

Following these events, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, decided to move to the Cotswolds after the 2016 US presidential election. The couple purchased a property in the region valued at around £20 million and have been exploring the local villages and attractions, even frequenting Jeremy Clarkson’s pub.

Pictures shared on social media reveal their Cotswolds home’s stylish interior, featuring an open-plan design with modern furnishings. Despite her attempt to revive her career with a Netflix stand-up special and comedy tour in 2024, DeGeneres faced criticism and ultimately retired from the entertainment industry in 2025.
