A middle-aged man was swiftly taken to the hospital after plunging from the historic Rochester Castle in the UK. The incident occurred on Thursday morning at around 8:40 am at Castle Hill.
Upon arrival, emergency services attended to the man in his 50s who had fallen from a height, sustaining injuries to his chest, femur, and ankle. He was then transported by road to King’s College Hospital for further medical care.
According to a spokesperson from Kent Police, the authorities were alerted to the situation at 9:33 am and responded to the medical emergency at Rochester Castle. The man was then transferred to a London hospital for treatment.
The scene was attended by three fire engines and specialized rescue units from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, who collaborated with paramedics from the HART team to rescue the injured person.
The ambulance service confirmed that multiple crews were on-site to assess and treat the man for his injuries before transferring him to King’s College Hospital for additional treatment.
Rochester Castle, constructed in the 1080s, is a significant stone-built structure in England. Originally entrusted to the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1127, it features a remarkable medieval keep, which remains one of the tallest surviving buildings of its kind in Europe.
Despite enduring multiple sieges, including a well-known attack by King John in 1215, the castle lost its royal importance in the late Middle Ages and fell into disrepair during the 17th century. Nevertheless, it continues to stand as a notable symbol of medieval secular authority.
