Sky Broadband down as fuming Brits report continued internet issues
Brits are enraged after Sky Broadband went down this morning with hundreds reporting issues accessing the internet.
Service tracking data on DownDetector showed a huge spike in the number of users complaining that their internet had cut out this morning.
At 5.21am this morning, the number of compaints started to rise with 50 reports. By 7.36am, the number of reports had surged to 467.
A number of customers are calling on the media giant to cough up compensation due to the “internet blackout“, which they say is affecting the southwest of the country.
One user named Frank Spencer wrote: “Any compensation for sky customers regarding the internet blackout in the southwest ? Think all sky customers s should quest compensation in writting for the inturuption and inconvienience when a service paid for is not being provided.”
Sky is known for its high levels of service, but it doesn’t have the absolute cheapest broadband on the market, with many price comparison sites saying that more affordable broadband can be found elsewhere.
Responding to another complaint, Frank added: “Request compensation , its pretty terrible that we pay for a service (and its not exactly cheap!) And that service is this poor in this area and sky are reporting no issues when clearly there is a huge black out occuring.”
While many of the users say they’re in the southwest, the DownDetector map shows that the issues are happening in major population hubs across the country. London appears to be the worst-affected area.
Kerry Siau wrote: “Good morning, lots of sky broadband users in St Austell and surrounding villages have had no internet since 10pm last night. Do you have a time for this to be resolved?”
Users have also complained of the lack of response from Sky. Tony Bray took to Twitter to request help from the firm. He wrote: “Dear Sky, we have lost broadband including phone lines for over an hour. Your service checker believes it’s all working yet your router understands it’s broken !! Your call centre is closed. Useless service. Fix it !!”
