Huge noughties music icon makes rare performance outside McDonald’s in viral video

A noughties legend has shocked music fans by performing once more, this time outside of a London McDonald’s.

Users on the social media app TikTok posted videos of the well-known singer performing one of his most known hits, 20 years after it was first released.

Looking completely unrecognisable, the former music star wore a bold blue and pink tie-dyed tracksuit with a motif of a person wearing sunglasses on as he danced on a street outside of a McDonald’s. People nearby joined in on the fun, the crowd growing more excited when the star joined DJ AG Online (Ashley Gordon) behind his decks for the another city street performance – which he is well-known for.

At the peak of his career, the singer achieved three huge number ones with a debut album, and also has a very famous younger sister. The question now being asked is whether previous fans and music lovers would recognise him now…

You may be surprised to know it was Daniel Bedingfield! In the clip, a now 45 year old Daniel performed a rendition of his chart-topping anthems including Sometimes You Just Know and Gotta Get Thru This – the song sharing the name of his first solo album. Fans rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts, exclaiming how unexpected the collaboration was.

The commenters wrote: “Oh my lord, they managed to get Daniel out of hiding”, another wrote “the legend Daniel Bedingfield; I love this for him. Look at the pure joy”, added a third and fourth fan penned: “Daniel Bedingfield comeback please”. Another fan mused: “him and his sister are so underrated,” reminding those of the star’s famous sister, Natasha Bedingfield.

Born in New Zealand, Daniel was everywhere in the 2000s, rising to fame after UK garage gained popularity. Pumping out singles one after the other, Daniel gained two number ones and his debut album was a bestselling success, having 1.6million sold copies in the UK. The album as resulted in songs If You’re Not the One and Never Gonna Leave Your Side, which were equally popular hits. However, Daniel’s sister could never be forgotten. Natasha was also celebrated for her timeless hits Unwritten and Pocketful of Sunshine.

Fans have clearly been waiting for Daniel’s return, begging for new material as they finally toast his announcement promising a new drum and bass mix to be released soon, which he claims to have made using artificial intelligence (AI).

He also shared that he is returning to tour-life, confirming performances with a list of summer festivals throughout the UK. This makes history as it will be the star’s first time returning to stage since 2005, a year after the car crash in which he nearly lost his life, sustaining head and neck injuries. The accident occurred in his home-country New Zealand when the star was visiting his parents over Christmas in 2004 where he was reported to have been driving a 4×4 car near Whangarei, North Island when the incident happened. Whilst recovering, Daniel co-wrote for other musicians, including British pop princess Pixie Lott.

Returning to Britain in 2016, he turned to the West End, joining Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds – in which he co-starred with Jimmy Nail, David Essex and Heidi Range. Unfortunately, the ex-singer left production after only a few weeks. Restless, he moved to America, only recently returning to stage with international DJ Fred Again.
