A new season of the hit series “North of North” is set to return to Ice Cove, bringing viewers back to the chilly setting. The show, which gained widespread acclaim in Season 1, tells the story of Siaja, played by Anna Lambe, as she navigates life post-breakup with her husband. The series has garnered international success, earning spots on Netflix’s Top 10 in multiple countries and receiving accolades for its blend of humor and serious themes.
Creators Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril expressed their surprise at the show’s popularity, with Season 1 winning nine Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Comedy Series and Best Lead Performer for Lambe. The upcoming season picks up where the last one left off, delving deeper into Siaja’s personal struggles and relationships with her family.
The production team emphasized the importance of authenticity by involving Inuit cast and crew members to maintain the show’s genuine representation of Arctic culture. Filming in Iqaluit provided a unique and challenging backdrop for the series, with the harsh Arctic conditions adding an element of unpredictability to the production process.
Season 2 promises to bring new twists, characters, and adventures, building on the success of the first season. Fans can expect a mix of humor and heart, with the creators aiming to deliver a bigger and more exciting viewing experience. The new season will premiere in Canada before launching globally on Netflix later this year.
