Macklemore’s recent tour announcement aimed at supporting Palestinians saw all three shows sell out quickly, according to the artist. The tour, named the Free Palestine tour, includes October dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. Macklemore has not disclosed the lineup for the shows yet, but mentioned that the performances will feature him “and friends,” with more details on the way.
The rapper unveiled the European tour after being removed as an opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour leg. Expressing his surprise, Macklemore shared his gratitude on Instagram for the overwhelming response to the tour, emphasizing the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine and using their platform to raise funds.
The tour’s proceeds will support various Palestinian aid organizations, such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. This initiative stems from Macklemore’s ongoing advocacy for Palestinian causes, which led to his removal from Sheeran’s tour due to venue owners threatening to cancel Sheeran’s shows if Macklemore remained as the opener.
Following the controversy, Sheeran addressed the situation during a show in Philadelphia, expressing his reluctance to be an activist musician. Ultimately, the shows at Gillette Stadium were canceled due to severe weather. Despite inquiries about potential Canadian shows, Macklemore’s representatives have not provided any information. The successful ticket sales in Dublin, Paris, and London were met with appreciation from Macklemore for the enthusiastic support shown by fans.
