GK Barry is set to reunite with one of her jungle campmates for an exciting new project.
The podcaster won the hearts of the nation during the 2024 series of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! GK, real name Grace Keeling, impressed viewers with her open and honest conversations about her sexuality and her unlikely friendship with Reverend Richard Coles.
Now, three months on from the final, GK has teased she and Richard are set to work together in the future. Speaking at the Metro Pride Awards last month, GK looked back on the reaction to her time in camp and discussed the importance of LGBTQ+ representation on national TV.
“I think it’s so important [to have these conversations on screen],” she explained. “I feel like, sometimes this topic is a bit taboo with the older generation, if they’re not sort around people that may be part of this community. So it’s a good conversation starter to have.”
GK added: “When I came out the jungle, the amount of people that said ‘I had to explain what scissoring is to my mum’ and it was so funny. One person came up to me and said ‘my daughter came out to me today because she felt comfortable hearing your coming out story. Maybe I would have come out when I was younger, if I had people like that speaking in a casual way on TV.”
“I’ve loved coming out of it. I’ve loved eating food and drinking all my Prosecco,” GK said of life post-show. Asked if she plans to reunite with Reverend Richard on screen, the podcaster teased: “I would say, definitely keep an eye out for maybe a few things that could maybe be to do with me and your favourite people.”
GK was speaking just days before her jungle campmates Danny Jones and Maura Higgins were caught kissing at the BRIT Awards. McFly singer Danny finally broke his silence on Friday night and apologised to his “wife and family” in a grovelling statement shared on social media.
Danny returned to Instagram on Wednesday, his birthday, for the first time since locking lips with the Love Island star. The married dad-of-one, 39, shared multiple birthday messages from fans and friends but tellingly, only one of his I’m A Celebrity co-star’s publicly wished him a happy birthday.
Danny, 39, was crowned King of the Jungle on the ITV show last year – just pipping Coleen Rooney to the post in one of the most heartwarming series of the long-standing programme ever. Danny and Coleen, along with other campmates like Oti Mabuse, Barry McGuigan and GK Barry, formed a close-knit group during their time sleeping under the Australian stars – even reuniting in January for a ‘mini-reunion’ and gushing over their newfound friendships.
However, the IAC 2024 group chat probably went quiet earlier this month when footage surfaced of former Love Island star Maura and married musician Danny sharing a kiss at the BRIT Awards. Before issuing a statement on Friday night, Danny marked his birthday by sharing a slew of messages on his Instagram Stories.
Fellow musicians such as Busted’s James Bourne and his McFly bandmate Tom Fletcher all took to social media to wish Danny a happy birthday amid his relationship woes. Interestingly, only one of the singer’s I’m A Celebrity co-stars publicly wished Danny on his special day!
Coleen was the one to wish the man who beat her to the I’m A Celebrity crown a happy birthday on social media, as others seemingly chose not to be seen taking sides during the fallout from Danny’s kiss with Maura. Coleen, who launched her wellness range earlier this year, revealed that she and her fellow campmates have kept in touch through a group chat and were planning a big reunion.
“We’ve had a few FaceTimes and stuff [since leaving the jungle], but today was the first day when I’ve actually physically seen them,” Coleen shared with the Mirror in January, after mingling with Maura, Danny, Oti, Barry and Dean McCullough – the DJ for her supplement line’s glamorous launch event.
“A few of them have seen each other like when they’ve been doing interviews and stuff down here, but it was so nice to get the group and you could see everyone was buzzing just to be back together again,” she continued. “Obviously it’s hard to meet up regularly, because we’ve all got busy schedules and we all live in different places, but we said when and if we can, we’re going to organise a big reunion.
“We’re calling this a mini reunion because unfortunately not everyone could be here. She wrapped up by saying: “We are constantly on the WhatsApp group together, talking and chatting and just keeping everyone up to date on what we’re doing. It’s really nice and I was really lucky to get that group last year.”
