South Wales Police have released a fresh statement following the alarming incident on Sunday evening, where they were called to reports of a shooting in Talbot Green’s Green Park Area just after 6:10pm.
Officers and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, finding a 40 year old woman with severe injuries.
Despite their best efforts, she was sadly declared dead at the scene. A 42 year old man from Talbot Green has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in police custody, reports Wales Online.
Several crime scenes have been established in the area and road closures are still in effect as investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector James Morris sought to reassure the local community in a statement released early Monday morning, saying: ” I understand the concern this will cause the local community, and I want to reassure people that a team of experienced detectives are already working at pace to piece together the events of last night.”
As of now, no additional information has been provided about the victim or the circumstances leading to her demise.
Both police and local politicians have appealed to the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation to proceed unhindered.
Local residents had reported seeing a significant response from the emergency services immediately after the incident, with police vehicles heading to the area at speed with their blue lights on, alongside emergency support from ambulance personnel.
A police helicopter was also dispatched to the scene and was noted flying over Talbot Green at 18:30 on Sunday and circling the area before later returning to base in St Athan.
Talbot Green is a town 10 miles north-west of Cardiff.
