‘I found out my sister is my mum after stranger told me the shocking truth’

Must read

After growing up never questioning her family dynamic, one woman made a shocking discovery after a stranger told her who her real mum was.

Megan Phillips revealed she grew up believing her grandparents were her parents, until a life-changing comment from a stranger changed her whole world.

The 31-year-old from Penarth, Wales, shared her family story online which has left social media users stunned. She revealed how her biological mum fell pregnant at 14, and was brought up thinking she was her sister. But it wasn’t until she was approached by someone she didn’t know when she was at school, who told her the truth.

Giving context to the story, shop owner Megan explained: “My biological mum got pregnant at the age of 14, and she had me at the age of 15. Me and my biological mum are quite close now.” When she was born, Megan’s grandparents decided to raise her as their own and despite saying how good her upbringing was, she never suspected they weren’t her real parents.

But it all changed after a surprise visit at school changed everything and her belief was shattered during a surprise encounter at school. A stranger approached her, revealing that her “sister” was, in fact, her real mother. Taken aback and confused, Megan was hesitant to accept the stranger’s words.

It wasn’t until later, while going through drawers in her home, that Megan stumbled upon a photo of her “sister” holding a newborn baby. When she flipped the photo over, she was gobsmacked to see both her name and her sister’s on the back.

Then when she finally plucked up the courage to confront who she had thought was her sister, the pair had a tearful heart-to-heart and the truth came out that had been hidden for so long. Despite the confusion surrounding her upbringing, Megan insists she had a happy childhood and remains deeply connected to her family.

On her mother’s situation, Megan said: “She was staying with her dad and his wife at the time. They told me they were my parents, nobody told me any different. It was literally like a normal childhood.

“There’s been a lot of questions that still haven’t been answered,” and recalled the time she went to visit her ‘sister’ and ‘niece’ when she straight out asked: “Are you my real mum?” And then said: “Before she could answer, she just started crying, and then she said ‘yes’.”

Megan said she loves her grandparents, and said they will always be her ‘parents’.
