Britons are being advised to inspect their loose change for a 50 pence coin that may hold a value exceeding 300 times its original worth. The coin, dated 2022, must exhibit a specific error to possess heightened value.

A coin expert has indicated that an error version of this specific coin could fetch up to £155. Via the social media platform TikTok, the expert, known as the Coin Collecting Wizard online, encouraged viewers to be on the lookout for the pride 50p coin.

This particular coin was produced in 2022 to commemorate 50 years of pride celebrations in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, caution was advised as some individuals mistakenly believe this coin to be more valuable than it truly is.

The expert elaborated on a situation where a follower offered him this coin for an inflated £5,000. He clarified, “This coin was issued in 2022 to honor 50 years of pride in the UK. The design is remarkable.”

In assessing its value, he stated, “However, there were also limited edition versions released by the Royal Mint in brilliant uncirculated, silver proof, and gold proof, which hold significant value.”

Further delving into the subject, the expert disclosed details about the error coin, valued at £155. In this variant, the rainbow motif from the tail side of the coin is also visible on the head side, encompassing the image of Queen Elizabeth II.

He stated, “If you chance upon one in your change, its value remains at 50p. However, a rare error version of this coin was recently discovered.”

He continued, “The fortunate owner of this error coin recently auctioned it, with the bidding closing at £155 – a remarkable outcome for a 50 pence piece.”

Regarding the pride 50p design, artist Dominique Holmes shared on the Royal Mint website, “This signifies a significant milestone in the pursuit of LGBTQ+ rights and equality. Pride holds immense importance for me and countless individuals in the UK and beyond, emphasizing the need to celebrate the progress achieved over the last 50 years while persisting in essential advocacy for our community.”
