“Emma Raducanu Adds Mark Petchey to Coaching Team”

Must read

Emma Raducanu has enlisted Mark Petchey to be part of her coaching team for the 2025 Wimbledon campaign. The former US Open winner needed approval from the Tennis Channel, where Petchey works as a commentator, which has been granted in advance.

Earlier this year, Raducanu collaborated with Nick Cavaday, who played a crucial role in her 2024 season recovery. However, due to health reasons, Cavaday had to step away from coaching responsibilities.

Following Cavaday’s departure, Raducanu briefly worked with Vlado Platenik in a trial capacity. While Platenik supported her at Indian Wells, he was absent during the Miami Open, where Raducanu reached the quarter-finals unaccompanied by a coach.

Although Petchey accompanied Raducanu at the Miami Open informally, he is set to officially join forces with the 22-year-old for the upcoming clay and grass court seasons. With past experience coaching Andy Murray, Petchey’s collaboration with Raducanu is anticipated to be fruitful.

Raducanu expressed positivity despite her recent defeat, emphasizing the importance of having familiar faces like childhood mentor Jane O’Donoghue by her side during tournaments. She highlighted the encouragement and support these individuals bring to her journey.

In other tennis news, Jessica Pegula advanced by defeating Raducanu and is set to face Alexandra Eala in the upcoming match. Eala surprised many by defeating second-seeded Iga Swiatek in straight sets during the quarter-finals.

Platenik, following reports of his split with Raducanu, shared insights on their working relationship, expressing surprise at the developments. He acknowledged the pressure Raducanu faced and respected her decision to make changes in her team for her benefit.

Sky has introduced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering significant savings and over 1,400 live matches across various leagues for the upcoming season, including at least 215 live Premier League games, a notable increase from previous seasons.
