“Starmer Urges Trump to Resume Aid for Ukraine”

Must read

In a recent call, Keir Starmer raised concerns with Donald Trump regarding the suspension of intelligence-sharing and military aid to Ukraine. The UK Prime Minister expressed hope for a positive outcome from crucial talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, aiming to reverse the abrupt halt of aid that had left Ukraine vulnerable to Russian air strikes.

British officials have been actively advising Ukraine on peace negotiations, with PM’s national security adviser Jonathan Powell briefing President Volodymyr Zelensky after a visit to Ukraine over the weekend. President Zelensky also met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia ahead of the upcoming discussions.

During the call, a statement from No10 revealed that the Prime Minister emphasized the UK’s commitment to lasting peace and expressed optimism for the talks to restart US aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. Additionally, discussions between the leaders touched upon potential punitive tariffs on trade imposed by the US President.

Keir Starmer is leading efforts to collaborate with allies in developing a strategy to safeguard peace in Ukraine. A planned call with approximately 20 allies aims to form a “coalition of the willing” to support a peacekeeping mission if an agreement is reached to end the conflict with Russia.

Military leaders are set to convene in Paris this week, with participation expected from around 30 countries, including European and Asian nations. Meanwhile, Foreign ministers from the G7, including David Lammy and US counterpart Marco Rubio, will gather in Canada to address ongoing security concerns, particularly focusing on securing a peace agreement in Ukraine.

The UK continues to advocate for a security guarantee from the US in the event of any potential invasion by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine. Downing Street has strongly refuted Moscow’s claims that the UK is the main provocateur of global conflicts, denouncing such accusations as baseless and farcical.

Recent tensions escalated as Russia announced the expulsion of a British diplomat and the spouse of another, citing alleged espionage activities. Stay informed with our daily email briefing for comprehensive UK political insights delivered directly to your inbox.
