eBay Slashes Buyer Fees & Introduces Tiered Pricing System

Must read

eBay has implemented a significant adjustment to its fee structure, resulting in reduced costs for buyers. The platform has decreased the Buyer Protection fee from 75p to 10p.

Furthermore, a new tiered pricing system has been introduced affecting the percentage customers will pay on their purchases. Previously, buyers paid 4% of the item price for items up to £300, and 2% for any portion between £300 and £4,000.

Under the updated fee structure, eBay users will now pay 7% of the item price up to £20, 4% for any amount between £20 and £300, and 2% for any portion between £300 and £4,000. There will be no fee for items valued over £4,000.

Previously, a £10 item incurred £1.15 in charges, which has now been reduced to 80p. Similarly, an item sold for £100 would have incurred £4.75 in fees, but this has now been reduced to £4.70.

The revised fees apply to all listings except for cars, motorcycles, vehicles, classified ads, and property. In cases where multiple identical items are purchased, the 10p flat fee is only charged once.

eBay is also introducing expedited payments for select sellers starting from August 6. Sellers who have made at least ten sales totaling £150 or more in the past five days, with no more than two unresolved cases in the previous 12 months, will receive their sale money within 24 hours of a sale, instead of the current two-day waiting period after delivery confirmation.

Last year, eBay eliminated selling fees, allowing sellers to retain more of their earnings by removing final value fees, regulatory operating fees, and insertion fees. However, fees for car, motorcycle, and vehicle listings remain in place. The platform also waived selling fees for all fashion items earlier last year.

eBay’s new default postage method, “Simple Delivery,” calculates parcel size to determine postage costs. Sellers receive a QR code or label from eBay to post their items, while some listings exempt from “Simple Delivery” include low-priced items, bulky items, and items eligible for local pick-up.
