“Ex-MP Reveals Affair with Liz Truss, UK’s Shortest-Serving PM”

Must read

A former politician recently shared details about the end of his romantic involvement with Liz Truss, culminating after 18 months of infidelity.

Mark Field, a former MP for Cities of London and Westminster from 2001 to 2019, recounted the genesis of his relationship with Liz Truss, the UK’s shortest-serving Prime Minister, which began in October 2002 at the Conservative Party Conference in Bournemouth’s Highcliff Hotel. In his newly serialized book in the Mail on Sunday, Mark, aged 60, revealed that their friendship evolved into something more at the end of 2003.

Both Mark and Liz, who was not yet an MP at the time, were married and lived with their respective spouses. Despite the excitement and thrill of their clandestine affair, Mark acknowledged the disparity in the status of their marriages.

As Liz, aged 49, dove into a three-month general election campaign in Calder Valley, Yorkshire, in early 2005, it signaled a potential end to their relationship. Mark visited her during her campaign, but after Liz’s defeat by a narrow margin, they continued their affair upon her return to London. However, their interactions dwindled during a parliamentary recess, leading to a gradual separation.

In a moment of clarity in September, Liz disclosed to Mark that she chose to remain with her husband, prompting Mark to realize that his own marriage was over. The affair became public in 2006, with Liz expressing regret and considering it a past mistake.

In a 2019 interview with You magazine, Liz discussed her current marriage to accountant Hugh O’Leary, whom she met at the 1997 Tory Party Conference. They eventually married in 2000 and are parents to two children. Liz emphasized her contentment in her marriage, as evidenced by a Valentine’s Day Instagram post in the same year, captioned “Love of my life. #happyvalentinesday.”
