“Aldi Introduces In-Store Bakeries to Select Locations”

Must read

Aldi customers have recently discovered that select stores now feature in-store bakeries, reminiscent of rival supermarket Lidl, according to social media posts. The discount retailer has been testing these bakeries since 2019 and has rolled them out to 25 stores. Shoppers expressed surprise and excitement upon finding out about the new bakery sections, with one shopper sharing her astonishment at her local Aldi in Gosport, Hampshire, now offering freshly baked goods.

The announcement sparked a flurry of reactions from other customers, with many expressing their desire for their nearest store to have a bakery as well. Some drew comparisons to Lidl, known for its bakery offerings, while others expressed mixed feelings about the change. Aldi’s move to introduce in-store bakeries comes as part of its ongoing expansion plans, with a £650 million investment earmarked for this year.

The supermarket has also outlined specific criteria for new store locations, aiming for sites capable of accommodating a 20,000 sq ft store with ample parking and easy access. Additionally, Aldi is seeking locations for its smaller Aldi Local store format in Central London zones one and two. The company has confirmed the opening of ten new stores this summer, including locations in Surrey, South Yorkshire, and London.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasized the company’s commitment to making quality, affordable food accessible to all communities. Aldi has also raised its minimum hourly pay rates for store assistants, with further increases planned for the future, reinforcing its dedication to its employees.
