Almost 60,000 air fryers in the Republic of Ireland are being recalled due to potential fire hazards, according to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). The CCPC has identified a manufacturing defect in certain models of Tower air fryers, prompting a warning for consumers to discontinue their use.
Although no incidents have been reported in Ireland, cases of these air fryers catching fire have been documented in the UK. The affected air fryer models were manufactured between 2020 and 2024 and were distributed by various retailers including Argos, Tesco Ireland, DID, Dealz, Lidl, and Amazon.
Consumers are advised to locate the model number on the appliance rating label at the bottom of their air fryer to determine if their unit is affected. If in possession of one of the recalled air fryers, individuals should immediately cease use, unplug the appliance, and contact Tower Housewares at towerproduct@customersvc.co.uk for further instructions.
Additionally, consumers can reach out to the CCPC national consumer helpline at 01 402 5555 or via email at ask@ccpc.ie for assistance. Grainne Griffin, the director of communications at the CCPC, emphasized the importance of checking the model of Tower air fryers, stating that the defect could lead to overheating and potential safety risks.
This recall follows a recent safety alert concerning certain versions of Citroen C3 and DS3 vehicles due to faulty Takata airbag systems. Approximately 82,000 affected vehicles have been removed from roads in France, impacting an estimated 120,000 drivers in the UK. Stellantis, the parent company of Citroen, reassured customers of their commitment to swiftly address the issue in a responsible manner.
Stellantis has taken precautionary measures by issuing a stop-drive order for impacted vehicles across Europe, including the UK, despite no reported incidents in the region. The company’s decision reflects its dedication to ensuring customer safety and prompt resolution of any potential risks associated with the affected vehicles.
