Six individuals armed with suspected knives and hammers were apprehended following a large altercation in Manchester. The disturbance, involving the use of various weapons, occurred around 2 a.m. on Wilmslow Road in south Manchester. The suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 24, were taken into custody on suspicion of affray after the brawl.
Several individuals sustained “serious” injuries, as confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. The authorities stated that a group of men engaged in a fight using knives and hammers, resulting in multiple injuries. Although the injuries are serious, they are fortunately not deemed life-threatening. The six individuals, aged between 18 and 24, are currently detained for questioning on suspicion of affray. Denison Road in Rusholme has been cordoned off as part of the investigation, according to Manchester Evening News.
Images from the scene show a vehicle with significant damage to its windshield within the cordon. Witnesses observed a substantial police presence in the vicinity. Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of the City of Manchester Criminal Investigation Department mentioned, “While we believe this was a targeted assault, we acknowledge the impact it may have on the local community.”
Astbury added, “This incident occurred in a bustling area, displaying a blatant disregard for community safety. Fortunately, no further injuries have been reported, and the suspected individuals were promptly arrested. Additional officers are present for ongoing inquiries, and we encourage anyone with concerns to come forward.”
