President Donald Trump recently revealed a new motivation for his interest in acquiring Greenland through a post on the social media platform, Truth Social. In his post, Trump mentioned the necessity of Greenland for the development of a missile defense system known as the Golden Dome. This system, akin to Israel’s Iron Dome, is believed to be crucial for safeguarding the United States. Although specifics about the Golden Dome remain limited, Lockheed Martin, a major U.S. defense contractor, has proposed a defense shield concept to protect the American homeland.
Trump further emphasized the significance of Greenland for NATO, stating that the alliance would be more potent and effective with U.S. control over the territory. He warned against the possibility of Russia or China taking ownership of Greenland if the U.S. does not act decisively, highlighting the strategic importance of the region.
