“UK Condemns Iran’s Crackdown on Protests, Plans Sanctions”

Must read

Iran’s ambassador to the UK has been called to the Foreign Office regarding Tehran’s violent crackdown on nationwide protests. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted disturbing reports of potentially thousands of casualties in the regime’s harshest response in over a decade. Due to an ongoing internet blackout in Iran, Cooper expressed concern that the reports may not fully capture the extent of the atrocities.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump encouraged demonstrators in Iran to persist in their protests, urging them to take control of their institutions. Trump announced on his Truth Social platform, “Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price. I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protestors STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”

In a parliamentary update, the Foreign Office disclosed that the Iranian ambassador to the UK, Seyed Ali Mousavi, had been summoned over Iran’s handling of the situation. Cooper revealed that she had conveyed the UK’s strong condemnation of the killings, violence, and repression to the Iranian foreign minister during a recent conversation.

Furthermore, Cooper announced plans for imposing additional sanctions on Iran, specifically targeting finance, energy, transport, software, and other key sectors. She denounced Iran’s claims that the domestic protests were incited by foreign influences as falsehoods and propaganda. Cooper emphasized that the Iranian regime’s attempts to discredit the protests and justify their brutal actions were baseless and aimed at undermining a genuine grassroots movement.

She reiterated the UK’s commitment, along with other global governments, to counter the regime’s misinformation, condemn its repressive tactics, and safeguard national interests. The UK remains vigilant in monitoring the situation in Iran and will continue to challenge the regime’s false narratives to support the genuine aspirations of the Iranian people.
