Shocking video footage captured the moment a package exploded at the reception of a building in the popular tourist destination, Istanbul, Turkey. The suspicious parcel was delivered to the reception of a residential building in Istanbul, where it was placed on the front desk. CCTV footage showed a man attempting to open the package before it detonated, injuring him and two building staff.
The explosion caused smoke and flames, throwing items from the front desk across the reception area. Debris, documents, and broken glass scattered on the ground after the blast. The reception area sustained significant damage, leaving a clean patch where the package was placed. A delivery driver was seen leaving the package just before the explosion.
Emergency services responded quickly to the incident on January 11 in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul. Both injured staff members received treatment at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital. They have since been discharged. Police cordoned off the building, and forensic teams conducted an investigation.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown. One of the injured staff members, Harun Arkin, described the incident, mentioning the lack of a company logo on the courier. Another staff member, Berra Köse, mentioned suspicions about the arriving courier. The staff members were commended by the EVA Group, which manages building security, for averting a potential larger disaster.
