Russia Threatens Nuclear Response to Europe’s Ukraine Support

Must read

Russia has issued a direct threat to use nuclear weapons against the UK and mainland Europe. Sergey Karaganov, who heads Russia’s Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, warned that if Russia faced defeat in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin would resort to nuclear weapons, resulting in catastrophic consequences for Europe.

In a critical tone towards his own government, Karaganov expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as excessive patience towards Europe. During an interview with right-wing American commentator Tucker Carlson, he mentioned that if European countries continued to support the conflict in Ukraine, severe consequences would follow. He emphasized the need for a firm response to those backing the war.

Karaganov dismissed the idea of Russia’s defeat as a mere fantasy and criticized European leadership for what he described as an intellectual deficiency. He highlighted the erosion of European influence and power, attributing it to a lack of understanding and foresight among European leaders.

The escalating global tensions have prompted the UK to deploy a military officer to Greenland in collaboration with Denmark, which is enhancing its military presence in the Arctic and High North regions. This move comes as former US President Donald Trump advocates for the United States to take control of Greenland.

Denmark’s defense minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, emphasized the unpredictability of future events and the need for collaborative efforts among allied nations to reinforce security in the High North. The joint operation involving multiple countries aims to enhance regional security and readiness to counter potential threats.

Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France have pledged to contribute personnel to the joint mission, focusing on strengthening cooperation and operational capabilities in the Arctic region. The initiative underscores the shared commitment of NATO and allied nations to deter aggression and ensure stability in the strategically significant area.

Amid renewed security concerns, President Trump’s persistent calls for US control over Greenland have raised apprehensions about the implications for the transatlantic alliance. The potential annexation of Greenland by force, as suggested by the Trump administration, has sparked debates about the future geopolitical landscape and the balance of power in the region.
