Must read

Gail’s bakery chain has officially announced that ten of its bakery outlets will be open for business on Christmas Day. Additionally, the upscale bakery revealed that customers visiting these locations on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. All Gail’s bakeries will operate as usual on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

Through a post on Instagram, Gail’s extended the invitation: “If you find yourself out and about on Christmas Day, several of our bakeries will be open to offer a place for a coffee, a loaf of bread, or a familiar face on a serene morning. Stop by, and we’ll gift you a mince pie as a token of appreciation for spending part of your day with us (while supplies last).”

Acknowledging the diverse ways people celebrate Christmas, Gail’s emphasized that their teams select what suits them best each year.

In other news, Gail’s disclosed plans to launch 40 new stores in England, expanding beyond London. The company inaugurated 36 cafes in the previous financial year, including its first establishments in the southwest of England. The next 40 stores are slated to open by the end of February 2026.

In its latest financial report, Gail’s reported total sales of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. However, pre-tax losses rose to £7.8 million, up from £7.4 million in the prior year, primarily due to business expenditures and staff costs related to store expansions.

As of February, Gail’s employed over 4,000 staff, approximately 500 more than the previous year following a recruitment campaign. The bakery also operates a wholesale division that supplies baked goods to various supermarkets, including Waitrose and Ocado.

Gail’s sourdough loaf is priced starting at around £4.80. The company highlighted that its retail segment, comprising the bakeries, is the fastest-growing and most profitable sector within the group.

A company spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the robust year-over-year growth, attributing it to the rising demand for high-quality, nutrient-dense food and the support of the communities they serve. The spokesperson affirmed the commitment to sustainable growth and enhancing access to quality food offerings.

In conclusion, Gail’s emphasized the competitive market landscape and the necessity to continue providing innovative, top-notch food in appealing neighborhood bakery settings.
