“Spain Mourns: Second Fatal Train Crash Strikes Barcelona”

Must read

A tragic incident occurred today in Barcelona as a commuter train crashed, resulting in the death of the train driver and injuries to numerous passengers. This unfortunate event follows closely after a recent fatal train collision in southern Spain that claimed the lives of 42 individuals and left many others wounded.

Reports indicate that the latest derailment in Barcelona was caused by a retaining wall collapsing onto the tracks, leading to at least 20 people sustaining injuries in the accident. This incident occurred as the country initiated three days of mourning for the victims of the disastrous train crash that took place on Sunday near Adamuz in Spain’s Córdoba province, involving a northbound and southbound train carrying nearly 500 passengers.

The Barcelona crash prompted a swift response, with fifteen ambulances and 35 fire crews rushing to the scene to assist. Firefighters worked diligently to rescue individuals trapped in the train carriages. The accident transpired on a commuter route between Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Gelida, approximately 40 kilometers away from Barcelona, amidst heavy rainfall in the area.

In Sunday’s tragic collision, which occurred at 7:45 p.m., a train carrying 289 passengers from Malaga to Madrid derailed and collided with an incoming train traveling from Madrid to Huelva, resulting in devastating consequences. Among the casualties were the parents of a young girl who were returning from watching “The Lion King” musical in the Spanish capital.

Fidel Saez, who lost his mother in the crash, shared the harrowing experience of his family surviving the incident, with his brother managing to save his children by guiding them through a window. The collision’s impact was severe, particularly affecting the front of the Madrid to Huelva train, causing its first two carriages to derail and plunge down a slope, with bodies thrown hundreds of meters from the crash site, as confirmed by Andalusia regional President Juanma Moren.
