The leader of the Labour Party has cautioned Vladimir Putin that the UK government is closely monitoring Russian activities in British waters following the sighting of a suspicious vessel in the Channel.
Anna Turley emphasized that Keir Starmer, the head of the Labour Party, is collaborating with international partners to address the situation. A tanker named Tavian was observed heading towards Finland, passing 20 miles north of Guernsey during the early morning hours, as per tracking data.
Tavian is believed to be linked to Vladimir Putin’s covert fleet, allegedly used to circumvent restrictions on Russian oil trade.
Chair of the Labour Party, Ms. Turley, expressed confidence in Keir Starmer’s diplomatic efforts, highlighting the party’s commitment to upholding international law and ensuring the safety of citizens by monitoring Russian activities in the region.
This development occurred shortly after the UK assisted the US in seizing a Russian-flagged tanker in the North Atlantic. Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander identified the vessel, Marinera, as part of the shadow fleet financing Russia’s operations in Ukraine.
Collaboration with allies like the US is deemed crucial in countering Russian attempts to evade sanctions. The UK contributed RAF surveillance aircraft and a naval supply ship to support the operation, which resulted in the seizure of the Venezuelan-linked vessel previously known as Bella 1.
The operation, which saw US special operations aircraft landing in Scotland before proceeding further north, received appreciation from the US military’s European Command for the UK’s steadfast support.
Mr. Alexander underscored the importance of preventing illegal funding that supports Russia’s military actions, emphasizing the need to work with allies to combat sanction-busting activities.
Efforts are ongoing to disrupt channels that finance Putin’s military endeavors, reflecting a united front with international partners against Russian destabilizing actions.
