The exquisite shorelines of Anglesey have been highlighted as some of the finest beaches in the UK by CondeĢ Nast Traveller. Despite this recognition, the experts responsible for the rankings expressed a desire to avoid a large influx of visitors to Anglesey’s pristine coastlines.
One standout location is the ‘Beach of Romance’ on Llanddwyn Island, a renowned three-mile beach with historical ties to Princess Dwynwen. Princess Dwynwen sought solace on Llanddwyn Island after a failed love affair, eventually becoming Wales’s own St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers.
Adjacent to the beach lies the Newborough Warren National Nature Reserve, popular among bird-watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors may have the opportunity to observe the world’s second-largest raven species or even catch a glimpse of the elusive red squirrel. Nearby areas such as Lligwy and Traeth Yr Ora also boast stunning sandy expanses.
For those interested in extending their beach excursion, the guide recommends various accommodation options. The Tre-Ysgawen Spa, a former grand country mansion now nestled in manicured gardens on Anglesey, is suggested for an overnight stay. Alternatively, a more secluded experience can be found at Anglesey Tipi and Yurts, offering rustic wood dwellings adorned with sheepskin throws and fairy lights.
The Blue Flag beach is located on the southwestern tip of Anglesey and is named ‘Llanddwyn Island,’ although it is not entirely an island as it remains connected to the mainland except during high tides. The beach provides sweeping views of Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula.
Visit Wales describes this narrow strip of land as an ideal spot for picnics in good weather and an exhilarating destination when winter winds blow. With rolling dunes, prominent rock formations, and a mix of historic structures, it offers ample opportunities for exploration. A pathway leads to the nature reserve on Llanddwyn Island, while the nearby forest boasts scenic walking trails.
This remarkable beach is a must-see destination, though visitors should note that dog restrictions are enforced from May through the end of September.
