Australian Man Killed by Police Car in London; Widow Pays Tribute

Must read

The wife of a caring father who was tragically hit and killed by a police car in London has paid tribute to her beloved husband. Australian national David Clark lost his life in Borough, central London, on January 7 following the incident involving a marked police vehicle. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is looking into the matter and confirmed that despite efforts from the police drivers to provide aid, Mr. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt statement, Mrs. Clark expressed the profound impact of her husband’s passing, emphasizing the void it has left in their lives and her commitment to looking after their seven-month-old daughter. She described David as more than just a news headline, highlighting his roles as a loving husband, dedicated father, son, brother, and treasured friend.

The IOPC disclosed that David Clark, a 35-year-old Australian residing in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, was the pedestrian involved in the fatal collision with the Met Police vehicle. Their investigation revealed that two police vehicles, responding to an emergency call, were involved in the incident on Borough High Street. Despite the immediate provision of first aid, Mr. Clark could not be saved.

Acknowledging the outpouring of support, Mrs. Clark expressed gratitude for the compassion shown during this difficult time and requested privacy for her family and friends as they cope with the loss. The focus remains on caring for their daughter, supporting each other, and honoring David’s memory away from the public eye.

IOPC Director Amanda Rowe extended condolences to Mr. Clark’s family and friends, assuring them of regular updates on the investigation. The independent inquiry aims to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident involving the police and emphasizes treating the officers as witnesses during this early stage.

To assist with repatriating David Clark’s body to Australia, friends of the family have initiated a GoFundMe page that has raised over £15,000 so far.
