Canadian cafe serves ‘Trump sandwich’ filled with ‘Russian dressing and small pickle’

Must read

As President Donald Trump continues to infuriate Canadians by outlining his desire to make the country the US’ 51st state, a restaurant north of the American border has hit back.

Trump angered the Canadian public further last week after imposing a 25% tariff on all goods from the nation – which was paused 24 hours later. Since then, however, he has outlined plans for it to be reintroduced on April 2, possibly at an even higher rate.

The president, 78, has also made repeated comments calling for Canada to be made his country’s 51st state, an idea Canadians don’t seem too keen on. To show their disdain, a restaurant in Canada has introduced the Trump Sandwich to its menu, mocking the US leader.

Details of its contents were advertised on a blackboard by the eatery’s entrance, with a snap of it making its way to social media platform X. It read: “Trump Sandwich – White Bread – Full of Baloney – with Russian dressing and a small pickle.”

X users on both sides of the border saw the funny side, including one American who penned in response: “Love that Trump Sandwich wit from Canada, sharp, funny, and oh-so Canadian! Standing tall against tariffs with humor and heart. Cheers to our northern neighbors for keeping it real!”

A second added: “As an American I absolutely love this!” A third person agreed: “Canada y’all made my darn day lol. I feel the exact same way about him too.” Whilst a fourth in the US said: “I’m a Trump guy, but I’ll give it to you, this is solid.”

A Canadian X user also praised: “Sheer genius. Another joked: “One of the cute old ladies that comes into my job was asking me if we had this today and when I asked her what’s that, she couldn’t hold it together on the small pickle part.”

A third replied: “Sounds legit!” And a fourth Canadian X user quipped: “Brilliant! (I’d be very tempted to get one, but I’m not the biggest fan of dressing and pickles, sorry.)”

Trump’s actions and words has infuriated Canadians, who have been heard loudly booing the American anthem at NHL and NBA games. Some are cancelling trips south of the border, and many are avoiding buying American goods.

Canadian prime minister-designate Mark Carney also hit out at Trump in his speech after his landslide win as the Liberal party’s new leader, meanwhile. The 59-year-old said: “There is someone who is trying to weaken our economy.

Donald Trump, as we know, has put unjustified tariffs on what we build, on what we sell and how we make a living. He’s attacking Canadian families, workers and businesses and we cannot let him succeed and we won’t.”

Carney added: “I know these are dark days,” before continuing: “Dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust. We’re getting over the shock, but let us never forget the lessons: we have to look after ourselves and we have to look out for each other. We need to pull together in the tough days ahead.”
