“Darts Drama: Cullen Accuses Suljovic of Cheating”

Must read

Joe Cullen recently expressed strong criticism towards Mensur Suljovic on social media, accusing the experienced darts player of dishonesty. Cullen faced a disappointing loss to Suljovic in a tense second-round match at the World Darts Championship.

Suljovic made an impressive comeback after falling behind in a set, ultimately claiming a 3-1 victory over Cullen at Alexandra Palace. Throughout the game, Cullen displayed frustration by sarcastically checking his watch and muttering “hurry up” to himself as the 53-year-old Austrian took his time with throws at the oche.

While Suljovic is known for his deliberate pace on the circuit, Cullen grew increasingly agitated by his opponent’s extended celebrations and slow play. Tensions escalated during their post-match handshake, with Cullen confronting Suljovic, who responded with laughter.

Upon leaving the stage, Cullen paused, glared back at Suljovic, who was celebrating with the audience. Cullen then vented his anger on social media, stating, “If that’s darts, I don’t want any part of it! Always liked Mensur away from the board, but that was evident to everyone! I don’t believe I’m alone in feeling this way. The traditionalists may call it part of the game, but no matter how you phrase it – it’s CHEATING! That’s not darts.”

When questioned about Cullen’s outburst and whether he had apologized for his slow play during the post-match press conference, Suljovic appeared puzzled. He stated, “I have never personally apologized to Joe Cullen. I perform on that stage, what’s his issue? I might apologize to the referee, but to Joe Cullen? Never. Everyone plays differently.”

Further probed about the incident, Suljovic expressed confusion about Cullen’s grievances, emphasizing that he does not intentionally play darts incorrectly. He acknowledged his celebratory gestures and enthusiasm but maintained that he respects Cullen as a person.

In the upcoming round, Suljovic may face defending world champion Luke Littler, who will compete against darts player and NHS area manager David Davies in the next match. The PDC World Darts Championship commences on December 11, with fans able to watch every match live exclusively through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
