A woman has caused a stir online by sharing her bra hygiene routine, triggering a debate after receiving criticism for not washing her bras after each wear. Lynne Cavanagh, aged 46, admitted to only washing her bras when visibly soiled or stained, leading to a surprising backlash regarding proper bra care practices.
Known as @LynneLxx on TikTok with a following of 15,000, Lynne posted a viral video questioning her audience about their bra washing frequency. Expressing her astonishment at being labeled “clatty,” Lynne inquired, “How often do you wash your bras?” She further elaborated that she refrains from washing certain bras regularly, confessing to not washing one bra for months as she only wears it occasionally and only washes them if they appear dirty or smelly.
Lynne shared advice she had received about not over-washing bras to prevent them from turning grey or losing shape due to repeated washing. Despite her rationale, some of her followers expressed disapproval of her lax approach to bra care, insisting on washing bras more frequently after each wear. Criticism ranged from “Never heard that before, I thought everyone washed it after every wear” to “Clean bra every day and washed straight away” and “Everyday after it’s been worn.”
A hygiene survey revealed that 35% of UK women wear a bra at least five times before washing it. According to Pour Moi’s Lingerie Technologist, Lois Siciliano, washing bras every two or three wears is recommended, with frequency varying based on activities while wearing them, such as exercise.
While opinions varied, some followers supported Lynne’s approach, sharing their own experiences of washing bras less frequently to avoid damage. The debate highlighted diverse perspectives on bra care, with some users admitting to washing their favorite bras less often due to wear patterns and personal preferences.
Commenters acknowledged the need for adaptable practices based on individual circumstances, suggesting that different occasions may warrant different approaches to bra washing. As the discussion continues, it is evident that there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to caring for bras.
