Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to certain households this week following snowfall in various parts of the UK.
These Cold Weather Payments are valued at £25 each and are granted whenever the average temperature in your area falls to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. In the event of multiple periods of freezing temperatures, multiple payments can be received.
Eighteen postcode regions have now qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, triggered on December 30 and January 6.
The Mirror recently disclosed the 451 postcode areas eligible for Cold Weather Payments this year. Those eligible for these payments include individuals receiving specific benefits or mortgage support.
Payments are typically deposited directly into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days. However, applications are required for individuals with a baby or if a child under five moves in with them.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) administers the Cold Weather Payments scheme, scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026.
Notably, Cold Weather Payments are not applicable in Scotland, where they have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment worth £59.75.
