Downing Street has strongly rejected Russia’s claims that the UK is the primary cause of global conflict. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson dismissed the accusations as “absurd,” pointing out that Vladimir Putin initiated an unjustified invasion of Ukraine, leading to widespread suffering and loss of life.
The rebuke from Downing Street follows an attack by Moscow on the UK, where Russia attempted to shift blame for global conflicts onto Britain. The Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia suggested that the UK is provoking conflicts to protect its interests, drawing parallels to events preceding the world wars of the last century.
In response to these allegations, UK Prime Minister engaged in discussions with US President Donald Trump ahead of upcoming talks between US and Ukraine officials. Downing Street expressed commitment to fostering lasting peace in the region and hoped for positive outcomes from the dialogue to resume aid and intelligence-sharing with the US.
The leaders also discussed trade tariffs, with plans to advance economic agreements previously deliberated at the White House. Both parties agreed to maintain communication on these matters in the future.
