“Explore Welsh Islands on Historic Paddle Steamer Cruise”

Must read

If you’re looking for a unique and scenic day trip this summer, why not try a paddle steamer voyage to explore secluded islands in southwest Wales and the Bristol Channel? The Waverley, the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer, is offering cruises from popular Welsh coastal towns like Penarth, Swansea, Tenby, Porthcawl, Milford Haven, and Fishguard this June.

A paddle steamer is a steam-powered boat with paddle wheels that propel it through water using a steam engine. Passengers on the Waverley can enjoy the authentic steamship experience and witness the paddle wheels in action while taking in the surroundings.

During the cruises, passengers can indulge in catering options such as hot or cold snacks, afternoon tea, a meal in the Dining Saloon, or drinks in the period lounges. The ship will kick off its sailings from Milford Haven on June 2 with a Pembrokeshire Islands Explorer cruise, offering views of Skokholm and Ramsey Island’s wildlife, including the famous Atlantic Puffin colony on Skomer.

Scheduled trips to Lundy Island will take place on June 3, 15, and 17, allowing passengers to explore the island’s attractions like the village, Victorian church, Marisco Castle, and the Old Light lighthouse with stunning views. Nature enthusiasts can spot seabirds, wildlife, and enjoy activities like diving and seal watching on Lundy Island.

The Captain’s Choice cruise on June 18 will take passengers from Porthcawl to Minehead, along the Exmoor coast to Ilfracombe, offering a unique journey. Other highlights include a special trip to Tenby on June 24 and a finale cruise departing from Fishguard on June 25, the first in over 30 years.

Apart from day cruises, evening excursions are available, including a River Severn cruise on June 9. Additionally, steam enthusiasts can enjoy special trips in collaboration with steam railways to celebrate the modern railway’s 200th anniversary.

Captain Dominic McCall expressed excitement about the sailing program, ensuring locals and visitors a memorable experience aboard the Waverley. Tickets are available on the waverleyexcursions.co.uk website or through the booking hotline. Special offers are available for seniors and children.
