“FatFace Store Closure in Bournemouth Sparks Shopper Uncertainty”

Must read

FatFace has recently closed one of its stores situated on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth, causing uncertainty among shoppers in the area. The closure, which occurred suddenly on July 19, was confirmed by a notice posted on the store’s door. The notice directs customers to FatFace’s online platform, with a QR code that does not provide further details on the closure.

Inside the store, a chalkboard expressing gratitude to customers for their patronage was placed, prompting reactions from shoppers on social media platforms like Facebook. Comments from individuals included expressions of disappointment at the closure and questioning the retail landscape in Bournemouth town center.

This closure follows a similar shutdown of FatFace’s Peterborough branch in June. Established in 1988 by Tim Slade, FatFace expanded its presence over the years before undergoing changes in ownership. In 2023, Next acquired the brand in a deal valued at approximately £115 million, ensuring the continuity of FatFace’s management and creative autonomy.

Additionally, other retail establishments are also facing closures, with BrewDog planning to shut down ten of its bars, including the Camden branch. Lakeland is set to close a store in Reading, and Asda is considering the closure of its Stepney Green branch, potentially affecting 50 employees. Poundland is also restructuring, with plans to close numerous stores and warehouses, risking over 1,300 jobs.
