Fear star Anjli Mohindra’s life off-screen from famous actor boyfriend to mental health

Must read

Fear, the gripping drama series, has recently arrived on Prime Video and has been keeping audiences on the edge of their seats since its premiere. The three-part thriller follows a couple’s struggle against a menacing neighbour who falsely accuses them of child abuse.

Starring Line of Duty’s Martin Compston and Vigil’s Anjli Mohindra as the beleaguered pair, the miniseries also boasts performances from Solly McLeod, James Cosmo and Daniel Portman. Since its release last week, Fear has climbed into the top 10 most-watched shows in the UK, with many viewers binge-watching the series.

Fans are eager to learn more about actress Mohindra, 35, and her off-screen life. Best known for her role as Rani Chandra in the Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Mohindra is in a relationship with another familiar face from the Doctor Who universe.

She has been dating Sacha Dhawan, known for his roles in Doctor Who and The Great, for several years, although the couple tends to keep their romance out of the spotlight.

However, Mohindra has offered fans a glimpse into their relationship via Instagram, sharing photos from a trip to Italy they took last October. Among the pictures from their Roman holiday, she included a few of Dhawan, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

The couple also travelled to America in May last year, visiting New York and New Orleans.

Mohindra previously praised Dhawan for his portrayal of the cunning Doctor Who antagonist, The Master, back in 2020.

Sharing a snapshot of her beau in the role of The Master alongside Yaz Khan (Mandip Gill), Mohindra couldn’t contain her excitement, captioning the pic: “The bRilliAnce on My ScreEn though! O and Yas.”

She didn’t stop there, as she re-posted a heartfelt message from Dhawan, expressing her immense pride: “Unspeakably proud of @sacha_dhawan who works his socks off and pours literally everything he has into his characters.”

She continued to gush over his dedication, adding, “He aims for truth in all his work, but I’m even more inspired by his honesty in talking openly about his personal journey and the seemingly insurmountable hurdles along the way. Read the full post here @sacha_dhawan.”

But it’s not just romance that’s been on Mohindra’s mind; she’s also been candid about her battles with mental health, including anxiety and depression. In 2020, she took action by announcing her commitment to run every day in January to support the mental health charity Mind.

Her Instagram post was clear and powerful: “Running Everyday January for @MindCharity to raise awareness, funds and most importantly to help remove the stigma of suffering from mental health conditions.”

She opened up about her own experiences, saying, “#Depression and #Anxiety have been flavours in my life since childhood. We have got this.”

In a 2022 interview with the iPaper, Mohindra declared herself “a huge advocate for therapy” and lamented the lack of resources and long waiting lists for those seeking help.

The publication noted that Mohindra’s anxiety often shows up in social settings and when she’s faced with making decisions. Reflecting on her journey, the actress acknowledged that her awareness of her anxiety grew as she matured.

She initially suspected that she craved stimulation, but after relocating to the bustling city of London, she found that her feelings persisted. “I thought it was a need for stimulation, but when I moved to London – which is wonderfully busy and noisy – it didn’t go away,” she revealed.

To cope, she has since adopted mindfulness practices, in addition to writing in a journal and engaging in open conversations with others.

Fear is streaming on Prime Video now in the UK and Ireland
