“Iconic MTV Channels to Disappear from Sky and Virgin Media TV”

Must read

Sky and Virgin Media TV subscribers will soon see a reduction in available channels, including popular music services starting tomorrow. The decision to remove several MTV stations was initially disclosed in October, and now viewers have just one day left to enjoy these iconic channels. Updated TV schedules indicate that MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will all cease broadcasting on December 31.

Those trying to check upcoming programs on the platforms’ TV guides are greeted with a notice saying, “This channel is now closed.”

The shift towards streaming and the declining viewership of traditional TV seem to be the reasons behind MTV’s decision to end nearly four decades of music television broadcasting. Many individuals now prefer platforms like YouTube and social apps such as TikTok for their music content consumption.

According to sources speaking to The Sun, MTV has become a victim of the surging popularity of streaming services. The source expressed that it is a somber day for the music industry, highlighting how MTV, once a dominant force, has now diminished.

Reports suggest that MTV services in parts of Asia, Australia, and Latin America are also facing discontinuation.

Despite the closure of music-focused channels, MTV HD will continue to be available, offering reality shows like Naked Dating UK and Geordie Shore.

MTV has played a significant role in shaping youth culture and launching music and television careers for decades. Since its establishment in 1981, the channel revolutionized the way music was experienced, promoted, and visualized.

The alterations do not end with MTV, as four children’s TV channels are also slated for closure. Pop, Tiny Pop, Pop+1, and Tiny Pop+1 will all be permanently removed from the channel lineup by the end of the year.

In total, nine channels are disappearing from Sky and Virgin Media TV.
