“Iran’s Regime Weakens, But Oppression Persists: MI6 Chief”

Must read

Iran’s regime is showing signs of weakness, but its oppressive tactics remain strong following a harsh crackdown on nationwide protests, as stated by the former head of MI6. Sir Richard Moore highlighted the widespread nature of the protests in Tehran, involving people from various backgrounds and fueled by economic grievances due to the regime’s failures in addressing economic issues.

Despite the regime’s weakened state, attributed to incompetence, economic mismanagement, and international setbacks, Sir Richard cautioned that their ability for brutality and suppression persists. US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of negotiations with Iran after the recent events, emphasizing Iran’s desire to engage in talks.

Regarding potential US involvement, Sir Richard stressed the importance of Iranians determining their own destiny, urging cautious and strategic support for the protesters. Reports emerged that Keir Starmer is being urged to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group, a move with symbolic significance but potentially limited practical impact.

Cabinet minister Peter Kyle mentioned the utilization of sanctions against Iran to their fullest extent but highlighted the complexities of using domestic legislation against state entities like the IRGC. While ruling out a ban through domestic laws, efforts are being made to leverage international pressure on Iran in collaboration with global partners.
