Lorraine Kelly parody account shuts down after emotional comments from ITV presenter

Must read

Lorraine Kelly has finally spoke out about the social media account that parodies how often she presents her own show – and now it has been shut down.

The ITV presenter, 65, became the brunt of a joke on X when an account named @LorraineKWatch started to track how often she would host her programme Lorraine. It came after a string of absences from the TV host that left others such as Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh filling in for her, despite the title of the show.

Lorraine has fronted her eponymous programme on ITV since 2010, with the show airing after Good Morning Britain every weekday. The new grandmother usually hosts four shows a week and takes Fridays off while the novelty of seeing a show called Lorraine hosted by other presenters tickled some viewers online.

The social media account was born in 2023 and kept tabs on how often Lorraine hosts the daytime TV show. It describes itself as “self-appointed attendance officer of daytime TV. Satire account tracking Lorraine Kelly’s attendance.” Last year, the account revealed Lorraine had only hosted 59.7% of the episodes of show bearing her name.

However, this weekend Lorraine spoke about the account for the first time and admitted it has been “really hurtful”. Her emotional comments prompted a response from the Where is Lorraine? account as they issued a statement saying they will stop. It read: “I have always said that if Lorraine or her team reached out and asked me to stop this account then I would.

“While I have not had contact with Lorraine or anybody affiliated with her, her comments in this weekend’s The Guardian make it clear that the joke has run its course and it is time for it to end. I have said time and time again that this was only ever meant to be fun and I’m very grateful to everybody who has enjoyed it with me. There was never any intention of hurting Lorraine’s feelings and I am sorry if I have done so. Goodbye my Lorrainvirstines.”

Speaking about the impact of the account, Lorraine told the Guardian: “I’ve not spoken about it before. I’m a grafter and I work really hard and I’ve had to take Fridays off for the past year. I just thought it was weird to care so much.” She explained how she started taking the day off to help her mum, who has been ill.

The TV star added: “And it sort of brings you into line with everyone else because if you look at This Morning, everybody else does four days. And as I’m getting older, I want to do other things, more writing, all of that. Mate, I’ve been doing this for 40 years, working my arse off.”

In response to the show being titled Lorraine even though she doesn’t always host, she replied: “I get that. I get that 100% because This Morning is just called This Morning and GMB is just GMB. Maybe it just started off as a wee joke, but it’s the way that everyone piles on. It starts off as a wee tiny thing and it gets bigger and bigger. I find it really sad.”
