Luke Littler has revealed that Michael van Gerwen attempts to unsettle him before their matches. Littler, aged 18, has engaged in intense competitions with Van Gerwen, including his recent triumph in the World Championship final earlier this year. During a discussion on the Stick to Football podcast, Littler disclosed Van Gerwen’s pre-game strategies.
Littler shared, “Before each tournament, we determine who goes first by throwing for the nearest bull. Every time, I approach Michael van Gerwen, and he tries to distract me by aiming for the bullseye first, but I always manage to hit it before him!”
With an impressive track record of winning seven out of their last ten encounters, Littler currently leads the Premier League, overshadowing Luke Humphries by eight points as they prepare for the finals in May. Despite the demanding schedule, Littler finds joy in playing darts, particularly relishing the pressure-packed moments during matches.
Expressing his passion for the game, Littler stated, “I relish the walk-ons and the energy of performing on stage in front of fans. The pressure situations are what I enjoy most in darts.” As the popularity and quality of darts continue to rise, Littler believes that past legends would struggle against the present competition but remains determined to potentially surpass Phil Taylor’s record of 16 World Championships.
