“Marks and Spencer to Fully Restore Online Services by August”

Must read

Marks and Spencer’s CEO has confirmed that the remainder of its online services will be back up and running by next month. While the supermarket has started to reintroduce online orders, some features such as click and collect and next day delivery are still unavailable. Additionally, deliveries to Northern Ireland have not resumed yet. Stuart Machin, the CEO, anticipates that these services will be fully restored by August.

The retailer had to shut down its online store following a cyber attack over the Easter weekend, which resulted in disruptions to contactless payments in stores and click and collect orders. The incident also led to the theft of customer data. M&S has assured customers that the stolen data may include names, email addresses, addresses, and dates of birth, but not card or payment details.

In response to the cyber attack, M&S has warned customers to be cautious if they receive any communication claiming to be from the company. The breach is expected to cost the company approximately £300 million. Mr. Machin attributed the breach to “human error” from an external party and assured that the incident will not deter the company’s progress.

Prior to the cyber attack, M&S reported a significant increase in annual profits, reaching £875.5 million, the highest in over 15 years, thanks to its successful turnaround program. The incident is part of a growing trend of ransomware attacks affecting various companies, including the Co-op and Harrods.
