Home Bargains is set to unveil a new store in the upcoming weeks in Newport, Wales, much to the delight of eager shoppers. Scheduled to open on May 31, the new establishment will not only house a brand new store but also feature a café and garden center.
This latest addition to the retail park represents a substantial £10 million investment in the city, leading to the creation of 90 job opportunities. Spanning 3,000 square meters, the new store located at Mendalgief Retail Park on Docks Way is reported to be twice the size of the existing Home Bargains outlet at Newport Retail Park.
Moreover, the new site will provide a 175-space car park with dedicated areas for families, disabled individuals, and a bike shelter facility. The retail park has been developed on the premises of a former Lidl supermarket and its adjacent shops, including a smaller Home Bargains store, all of which were demolished in May 2024 to pave the way for the new establishment.
Home Bargains is currently recruiting staff for various roles at the site, offering both full-time and part-time positions. Job listings for “Team Leaders” are currently live, with annual earnings of £30,887 as stated on the retailer’s website. Additionally, positions are available for team members for the café and bakery, offering hourly rates between £12.21 and £12.50.
The Newport store marks the sixth Home Bargains outlet in Wales to incorporate a garden center and café, joining other locations in Crosshands (Llanelli), Brynmawr, Cardiff Bay, Denbigh, and Prestatyn. Local residents have expressed their anticipation for the store opening on social media platforms, with many eagerly awaiting the launch and expressing their enthusiasm for the new store.

In light of recent product safety concerns, Home Bargains issued a recall for certain Easter-themed plush toys due to potential choking hazards for children. The affected products include Happy Easter Plush Toys 25cm (Pink Rabbit, White Rabbit, and Yellow Chick) with barcode 10811016, manufactured in China. Customers were urged to return the items for a full refund, even without a receipt.
