“Popular Children’s Channels Pop and Tiny Pop to Be Removed from Traditional TV Platforms”

Must read

In a recent development, two popular children’s channels, Pop and Tiny Pop, are set to be removed from Sky, Freeview, and Virgin Media starting next month. This change will impact millions of households that currently enjoy watching shows like Pokémon, LEGO Friends, Hello Kitty, and others tailored for young viewers throughout the day and night.

The decision to discontinue these channels is primarily driven by the diminishing commercial viability of children’s TV content. Paul Dunthorne, Managing Director of Narrative, explained that the commercial value in the UK kids’ TV market has drastically decreased over the past decade, leading to the closure of the linear Pop channel by the end of this year.

Although Pop and Tiny Pop will no longer be available on traditional TV platforms, their content will still be accessible through online-only services known as FAST channels. These services will require an internet-enabled TV for viewing.

Additionally, the closure of the channels will result in the discontinuation of the Pop Player app and website. However, there is a silver lining as Sky has announced the introduction of Disney Jr. to its Sky Kids package, featuring a range of popular shows for children aged 2-6. This new channel will launch on November 13 and include beloved programs like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and many more.

Subscribers to the Sky Kids pack will have access to Disney Jr. through the TV guide, on-demand on various Sky devices, and via the Sky Go app. Furthermore, Disney Jr. content will also be available for streaming on Disney+.

Overall, while the closure of Pop and Tiny Pop channels may disappoint some viewers, the addition of Disney Jr. by Sky aims to offer a fresh lineup of engaging and entertaining content for young audiences.
