It has been over five years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to step away from their royal duties, reducing the number of active members within the royal family.
The issue of diminishing royal personnel was further highlighted last year when both King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo treatment, causing them to take time off from their official duties. There were speculations that Harry might consider returning temporarily to fulfill his duties, especially during the King’s illness, but sources later refuted this claim, stating that Harry was not permitted to resume his role.
Despite public criticisms from Harry towards his father, King Charles has maintained a mostly silent stance on the matter. During a recent engagement at the University of East London, when asked about Harry, the King responded with a brief but poignant “It would be nice” before swiftly moving on.
Following the King’s health scare, Harry flew back to London from California in February 2024, where he briefly reunited with his father. There are indications that Harry is interested in reconciling with both his father and brother, Prince William, although it is acknowledged that this process will be challenging and require efforts from all parties involved.
Royal author Robert Hardman emphasized the importance of a comprehensive reconciliation process involving all parties to ensure a successful outcome that benefits everyone.
