Ryanair passenger books direct flight to EU city but ends up three hours away

Must read

A plane passenger has been hit with fierce backlash after criticising Ryanair for landing at an airport miles from where she was intending to visit.

The 27-year-old, known as Trngtravels online, left the budget airline a scathing review following a recent city break to Germany. She flew from London Stansted to Frankfurt Hahn, a one hour and 15-minute journey that can be bought for as little as £14.99 this month*. However, after touching down, the content creator realised she was still hours away from her desired location in the centre of Frankfurt.

Frankfurt Airport is much closer to the centre, but Frankfurt Hahn is around 1.5 hours away from the centre by car – and much longer if you have to take the coach. This is similar to Brussels airport, which is much more central than Charleroi – which is an hour away from the centre but often much cheaper to fly to.

Despite Ryanair clearly stating she was flying to Frankfurt Hahn, user Trngtravels argued flying to the far-away airport was plain wrong. “I’m here to let you guys know that Ryanair only flies to secondary airports that are far from the actual city,” she raged in a video that has amassed more than 10,000 views at the time of writing.

“So, don’t allow yourself to be fooled. And also Ryanair, you need to be held accountable for this because this is so wrong. The saddest part is that everyone else got conned. Everyone that went on our flight back home said they thought they were landing in Frankfurt.” She claimed she had been forced to get onto a coach to reach her desired location, a trip that would take an additional three hours.

However, the social media star’s post didn’t go down too well with swathes of viewers – who actually criticised her for making the complaint. “Is London Stansted airport in London? No, but that branding sells more tickets than Middle of Nowhere Essex Airport,” one person wrote.

Another agreed, commenting: “Sorry that’s your fault. I always check where an airport is from town when I’m booking a flight – you as a Londoner should know.” A third added: “The screenshot of the ticket does say (Hann) though just like it says London (Stansted) which is about 1.5 hours from central London,” while a fourth brutally penned: “When it’s 2025 and Google is a thing how is this Ryanair’s fault?”

Ryanair has been approached for comment.
