Scandal-hit Wynne Evans’ lawyers draft up ’30-page dossier’ as he vows to clear name
Wynne Evans’ lawyers have compiled a lengthy document against the BBC.
The Strictly Come Dancing star stepped back from the shows tour earlier this year after he was filmed making a demeaning remark to tour host Janette Manrara at a photocall during the launch in Birmingham. He was recorded making an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette when she walked over to the group for a photo, using the demeaning term “spit roast” in reference to a sexual act.
He was later suspended from his BBC Wales radio show, which he is said to be fighting to keep. At the time, Wynne apologised for his comments on tour. His Strictly co-stars even showed their support for him after he made the decision to step back.
But sources close to the star claim he fears he’s been “wronged” and that the comments have been taken out of context. They added that his legal team have complied a document of 30 pages which will hopefully clear his name of any wrongdoing.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Wynne has got a legal team in his corner and he has a 30-odd page dossier which he thinks will help his case. He absolutely loves his job on BBC Radio Wales and having to step back from it in the wake of his [Strictly] dismissal was heartbreaking.”
It’s believed that Wynne will be meeting with the BBC later this week. Reports claim that discussions were supposed to happen last month but he had made the decision to reschedule them due to his mental health. At the time, a source told the Sun : “Wynne was due to meet the BBC last week to talk about the concerns raised against him and how, if they could, move forward. Wynne was ready to fight but in recent weeks he has been struggling mentally.”
Reports previously claimed that Wynne was hoping to gain “some recompense” as his reputation had been “left in tatters” following his comments. There had been reports that he was going to a tribunal with the BBC and would “fight with every breath” to clear his name.
Wynne confirmed he had agreed with the BBC to “take some time out” from his radio show and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour “to prioritise my wellbeing”. He said in a statement: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that ‘’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
Speaking previously to the Mirror, Wynne said: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.” Following the incident, the BBC revealed that they had warned Evans about his behaviour. “He has a lot of support from a lot of the backstage dancers. It’s been a really sad ending to what has been a really fun tour.”
The Mirror has approached Wynne’s spokesperson for comment.
