Tesco has recalled its own-brand garlic powder over fears it could cause allergic reactions.
The supermarket has pulled certain batches of the seasoning in Ireland as some jars contain peanut, which is not mentioned on the label. This means this product could be unsafe for people who are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts. Symptoms of a peanut allergy include skin reactions, digestive issues and breathing problems.
The garlic powder comes in a jar that weighs 45g and costs £1. The affected batch code is 78775 and the best before date is the end of February, 2026. No other dates are affected by the recall notice. A notice on the Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “The above batch of Tesco Garlic Powder contains peanut which is not mentioned on the label. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanut and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch.”
If you purchased on the affected jars of garlic powder, and you’re allergic to peanuts, you should return it to your nearest Tesco store for a full refund. For all product recalls, you can check the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards websites. You should also notice recall notices in stores if they’ve pulled a product from shelves.
We recently reported on how some jars of Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy and Sweet were pulled from shelves because some packs contain mustard which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard.
The batch codes that are included in the recall are: 2400059, 2400060, 2400061, 2400062 and 2400063. These batch codes have best before dates of either June 2026 or July 2026. Birds Eye has also recalled packs of Goodfella’s Stonebaked Thin Garlic Bread over fears it could spark an allergic reaction.
A small number of packs have accidentally been packed with a garlic bread that contains cheese – which means they pose a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk. The affected food was only sold in Co-op stores and has the batch code 5020 and best before date of December 2025.
Marks and Spencer also pulled some chicken products over fears they could be contaminated with salmonella. The recall notice only applies to Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland stores, and relates to M&S Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and 2x Chicken Kievs.
