Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released new photos from the site of a tragic accident involving renowned British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The organization has also shared detailed information about the incident that claimed the lives of two individuals.
Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being extricated from the wreckage of an SUV that he, a driver, and other passengers were traveling in on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The accident occurred on Monday morning when a blown tire caused the vehicle to veer off course and collide with a stationary lorry.
Authorities from the Ogun State police and the FRSC are currently investigating the crash. The FRSC recently posted four previously unseen images of the damaged SUV and the truck it crashed into on their official platform at 2:10 pm GMT on Monday.
The statement issued by the FRSC confirmed the fatal crash involving Anthony Joshua and a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The report mentioned that the accident involved a black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua and four other adult males. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, one was injured, and Joshua sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary findings suggest that the crash was caused by the Lexus Jeep traveling above the speed limit and attempting an unsafe overtaking maneuver, resulting in the collision with the stationary truck. The FRSC emphasized the dangers of speeding and reckless driving on Nigerian highways and extended condolences to the families of the deceased while wishing Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.
