A man and the dog he was walking have sadly died after a car flipped and hit them in a horror crash yesterday.
A huge emergency response, including air ambulances and enhanced rescue units, rushed to the junction in Wythenshawe at 5pm yesterday. They found a man who had suffered fatal injuries after he was hit by a vehicle. His dog, who he had been walking at the time, was also deceased.
Police arrested a woman, who is in her 40s, at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on bail pending further investigation. Witnesses are being asked to contact the Greater Manchester Police.
The collision happened after a black car collided with another vehicle before smashing into the victim and his dog. According to initial reports at the scene, the black car “flipped over” and hit the man after colliding with a taxi.
Earlier, a local mum said her three daughters were in the taxi and had to be taken to hospital. She said one of the girls suffered a cracked rib and collarbone, Manchester Evening News reports.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 5pm on Sunday 9 March 2025, we were called to reports that a pedestrian and a dog had been struck by a vehicle at the junction Hollyhedge Road and Greenwood Drive, in Wythenshawe.
“Emergency services were in attendance, but despite their best efforts, the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, and a dog sadly died at the scene. A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on bail. We are now appealing for witnesses to help us with our enquiries.
“The vehicle, a black car, was travelling south on Greenwood Drive towards the junction of Hollyhedge Road. As the vehicle entered the junction it collided with another vehicle on the opposing carriageway, before hitting a pedestrian and sadly causing fatal injuries at the scene to him and his dog. There were no other serious injuries to report.
