A tragic incident at a water park in Brazil has resulted in the death of a young lifeguard while he was on duty. Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, aged 24, lost his life at the Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva when he entered a pool to retrieve a tourist’s ring and got trapped underwater, ultimately drowning in the pool’s drainage system.
The unfortunate event occurred at the Water Bomb attraction, where Guilherme’s colleagues grew concerned after he failed to resurface. Other lifeguards sprang into action, pulling him out of the water and initiating first aid procedures while emergency medical teams were summoned to the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Guilherme was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital.
According to reports, Guilherme had been an employee at the park for over two years and had recently been promoted to a leadership position. Wet’n Wild informed authorities that the Water Bomb attraction did not have a bottom drain and that the hydraulic system utilized side drains positioned away from the water slide exit and the pool’s visitor exit points.
In response to the incident, city officials confirmed that the park was in compliance with all necessary regulations and documentation. Wet’n Wild announced on social media that the park was temporarily closed following the tragedy and expressed their full support for Guilherme’s family while cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Following the necessary procedures, Guilherme’s body was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí before being laid to rest in Bragança Paulista. The company extended their condolences to the family and assured that they would continue to assist authorities throughout the inquiry process.
